COURSE DETAILS

  • SWIM (450 YARDS)

    Start Location

Athletes will be grouped by age and organized in a chute leading down to the water, forming two lines.

    Time Trial Start

Athletes will enter the water two at a time, every 5 seconds, side-by-side. A start clock will count down from 5 for each pair. Your race time starts when you cross the timing mat at the water’s edge.

This is a self-seeded start, so please position yourself based on your comfort and ability. If you’re not a strong swimmer or prefer to avoid contact, move toward the back of your wave.

Water temperatures should be in the low 70’s degrees. Wetsuits are optional. When the athletes have completed the swim they will exit the water, run up the beach and to the upper parking lot near the tennis courts and into the transition area.

The swim course is a 450-yard loop with four orange buoys. A yellow sign instructs to keep buoys on the right, and a logo of Nantucket Triathlon is in the upper right corner.
  • BIKE (13.5 MILES)

Athletes will exit the transition area and mount their bikes in a designated "mount" zone near the entrance to the upper parking lot. This is an out and back course (to Madaket and back to Jetties).

IMPORTANT - Single file cycling at all times (no side by side riding with a friend! If you need to pass an athlete, pass quickly and return to the very right side of the road.

  • RUN (3.4 MILES)

Once back at the upper parking lot at Jetties, athletes will re-rack their bikes and head back out on their run.

There are three areas where runners and bikers may overlap:

Nantucket Ave / Cliff Rd / North Liberty – Runners cross Cliff Rd while bikes may be heading out or back.

Easton St & North Beach St - Runners go straight; bikers turn left

End of Hulbert Ave – runners turning right onto the finish chute with bikers finishing their bike leg

These areas will be staffed with police, volunteers, and signage — but it’s still your job to stay alert!
