STEAMSHIP AUTHORITY OFFICIAL SPONSOR OF 2010 NANTUCKET TRIATHLON
Partnership further underlines Steamship Authority’s commitment to the event and the local community
Hyannis, MA (July 5, 2010) — The Steamship Authority, the region’s largest transportation company of the Cape and Islands, is pleased to be the Official Sponsor of the 2010 Nantucket Triathlon. In its second year, the Nantucket Triathlon is the largest sporting event on the island bringing 750 athletes and their families to the island.
“Our partnership with the Nantucket Triathlon underlines our commitment to not only to this great event but to our local community as well,” said Kimberlee McHugh, the Steamship Authority’s Director of Marketing. “We are excited to provide ferry transportation to Nantucket for hundreds of people to enjoy the island and bring commerce to the local community.”
“We are proud to have the backing of the Steamship Authority, they have been a great partner going two years strong,” said Bill Burnett, Managing Director of Streamline Events. “We look forward to a long lasting relationship with the Steamship Authority.”
According to USA Triathlon, participation in triathlons in the U.S. is at an all-time high, following unprecedented growth over the past 10 years. The biggest growth continues to be in the shorter sprint races, making the sport more accessible to first-timers as well as those with fewer hours to train. A 2009 study initiated by USA Triathlon revealed that more than three quarters of respondents participate in the sprint distance (approximately 500-meter swim, 12-mile bike, 5k-run).
