Welcome to the 2nd Annual Nantucket Triathlon!Nantucket has been my year-round home since 1977 when my family moved here from southern California. Although I spent every summer of my life on Nantucket, you should know that growing up on Nantucket, 25 miles at sea, was a very special experience. Nantucket's long and storied history as the whaling capital of the world, combined with historic architecture, cobblestone streets, vibrant waterfront, pristine beaches, clean waters and beautiful moorlands made for an amazing clubhouse as a kid.
Biking, hikes in the moors or on the beach, exploring Nantucket's open spaces, fishing, sailing and swimming in the clean, clear waters around Nantucket instilled a sense of independence and respect for exercise and outdoors.
My goal in starting the Nantucket Triathlon is to bring back a true premiere multi-sport race to the island - an event worthy of the natural resources and facilities that Nantucket has to offer.
I have worked closely with my college classmate (Ohio Wesleyan '92) Bill Burnett, founder of Streamline Events (www.streamlineevents.com). We have strived to design a course that is challenging for experienced athletes, yet appealing to first timers as well. We are also working closely with transportation officials to ensure easy (and hopefully discounted!) travel for athletes coming from off-island to compete. For those athletes who don't want to make a weekend out of the race, our race start time of 12:00 PM will allow athletes to come to Nantucket the morning of the race and to leave the island at the end of the day if they choose. The race venue is approximately a mile from the ferries that arrive in Nantucket and less than a mile from downtown Nantucket meaning you will not need a car! Bring your bike and your race gear and you are ready to go!
I look forward to seeing you on July 10th!
